As we reflect on last year’s Advent and Christmas seasons; the season of watching and waiting of the coming of the Lord into our lives and the joyous birth of Jesus Christ that changes everything, we at Olivet were blessed last December with wonderful memories and opportunities for worship, fellowship and fun. On Sunday, December 2 we celebrated our annual Hanging of the Greens service. This service affords us the opportunity to recall that the familiar decorations and symbols we see and use in the Christmas season are not just secular signs of the shopping season but real tools by which we might recall the true purpose of the season. This year, along with Pastor Bob we had readers from the church including Daryl Davis, Joan Dicker, Nan Laberteaux, Matt Sennholz, Sandy Templeton, Nicole Vogel, Amber Wilson, Dale Wilson. The following week we gathered on Sunday evening for our Christmas Tree Trim party. This time of fellowship and fun saw some fifty people gather for hot dogs, after which we gathered upstairs to make ornaments and decorate our tree. Thanks to Arlene Wamsley, Heidi Wilson, Susan Sennholz, Christine McGary and Kay Davis and all the others who helped make this event a huge success. The following week at worship we enjoyed a Christmas Pageant. (Read the article in this newsletter that details all the work and fun that went into that event.) On Christmas Eve our early service featured an encore presentation of our Pageant. The Christmas Eve Candlelight service followed with a moving celebration of the coming of the light of Christ into our lives. If that wasn’t enough, our Youth led worship the following Sunday and people are still raving about the great job they did in a service that asked people to make faith resolutions for 2008. As always we were blessed by the work of so many people aside from those listed above, not least of who are our Choir and Music Director Matt Silvius. For a church our size, we are truly blessed to have such a vibrant and faith-filled music program.
