Camp Brainerd Really Rocks by Evie Gulick

Camp Brainerd, our year-round camping facility in Snydersville, PA, has been a magnet for Presbyterian kids and adults since 1953.

They arrive ready for fun, fellowship and meaningful Christian camping led by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Camp administrators are Christian women and men who work at keeping the lure of camp alive and successful.

And, the camp staff for the summer programs, a group of carefully selected and trained college students who teach with faith and prayer, give the children safe and caring attention.

A huge list of summer programs is being offered in June, July and August for students of all ages, i.e., beginners, elementary, junior high and senior high. This year's programs range from 3 days to 6 days. To select the exact program for your registrant, get a form and schedule by contacting Pastor Bob, or online www.lehighpresbytery.org

Fees for summer programs include all camp costs, camp t-shirt, and photograph. Each Camp selection includes an early discount (fee to be paid by May 15, '08).

Be aware that Olivet scholarships are available. Speak to Pastor Bob.

Additionally, a LIT program exists for students in grades 10 thru 12 who want to volun-teer to help at summer Camp.

Summer Camp is but one of Brainerd's interesting events, a yard sale April 26; Women's Retreat May 2-3; the Youth Retreat Weekend November 7-9; and Christmas At Camp December 5-7.

Last newsletter Kim Ward wrote an interesting article "What Is Olivet Youth?" Kim and Nicole Vogel are com-mitted to teaching about God, and a good resource tool is Camp Brainerd.

Curiously Olivet youth, who have recently been to Brainerd and answered my question "What did you like best about your visit or visits to Brainerd I expected them to say, just hanging out.

Their answers are:
Amber Wilson--"I'm glad to play games and learn about God at the top of the hill".
Her sister Kassandra- "It's lots of fun kayaking and swimming, you know".
Dalton McGary - "Just gathering there is fun and so is going through the maze. I like learning about God".
And Nathan Finch- "It's really religious there, and I like that and it's fun".
Finally, Steve Finch- "Having fun and learning a lot about Jesus and being with friends".

Over the years Olivet's young people traveled back and forth to Camp Brainerd. Thinking back I recall teens from a group I led in the 60s had the same feeling of peace, tranquility, and fellowship during each visit. They also put " Gorman Roof Chapel" up on the hill, and being in front of the fireplace in the Calvin building for evening prayers at the top of the list.

Interesting! Two groups in different times liked both areas and felt welcome there. There is something special about Camp Brainerd.

In any year when a Lehigh Valley youth travels to Camp Brainerd, he or she will no doubt remember the time they first felt close to God. It's a fact. I've experienced meeting more than one former Olivet teen in a mall or store, and as I watched and listened, he or she relived a happy Camp Brainerd experience as we talked. Brainerd is special to all of us -as a weekend, a special event, a retreat, Summer Vacation Bible School, or a meeting- -just like icing on a cake.

ROCK ON CAMP BRAINERD!
