Raised with Christ

"So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. " Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV)

As we prepare for the Easter, we are reminded by Paul that Christ's resurrection has an effect on us here and now (see the accompyaning article on the season of Easter). He tells us that we have been "raised with Christ." While the concept of resurrection is a little hard to understand, the concept of living right now as someone who has faith in what Christ has done for us on Easter morning is a little bit easier to embrace.

How do you live now for Christ? Does the resurrection event mean anything as to how you now live your life? Do you ever consider what Jesus' victory over death means for you in your life right now? Do you believe? How we answer those questions says a lot about where we are on our journey of faith. But we have to be careful that we never deceive ourselves.

We are reminded that passive faith is not the way to live. Christ calls us to active faith. We have been raised with Christ. We have been given the gift of life. We are born anew. We are partakers in drinking the living water from which we will never thirst. We live our faith as a badge of honor so that others might know that we welcome the good news of Easter morning.

I invite you during this time of Easter to consider the amazing thing that Christ has done for you on that first Easter and embrace that gift not passively but as a call to live actively for Christ, that you might come to celebrate the good news of Christ's resurrection in your life everyday.
