Scottish Communion Sunday

July 20, 2008 10:00 AM Worship Service

Olivet member- -it's time to get your kilts and sashes out of moth balls, and get ready for an outstanding Worship Service. Our 10:00 am Scottish Communion is scheduled for Sunday, July 20th.

With pride, Olivet Church joyously presents a reenactment of a Scottish Communion in a Scottish village. The wearing of kilts and sashes show our Presbyterian Scottish ethnicity.

The Service has become an annual looked-for event. "Open Communion" for the community was served in Scottish villages as early as 1564, because the brave Scottish General Assembly recognized the need for it. Later additions to the service were music and Scripture.

Communion elements, carried by church Elders and the Bible carried by Steven Finch, 14 year-old son of Barbara Finch of Easton, make individual entrances and are led by pipers.

Steven is an Easton Area High School student, an active youth in OYEA, and was received into church membership on June 1st.

Music for the service is thrilling and beautiful. Celtic United Pipes & Drums of Effort, PA, is providing authentic Scottish flavor under the leadership of Drum Major Steve LaBadie, and the Olivet Worship Choir's outstanding music is under the direction of talented Matt Silvius, music director, organist and pianist.

Following the Service an outdoor reception, of shortbread and a cold beverage, will be held on the North 12th Street side of the church and will be hosted by the women of Olivet. Celtic pipers and drummers will provide music in the street as well.

This unique, uplifting and moving event is well worth your time. We'll be looking for you.

Get to church early- -at 9:45 AM, pipers and drummers will musically greet you outside the church. Bring a friend.

Surely everyone will be uplifted! VISITORS WELCOME
